Angela participated in NIH funded dysphagia research under the direction of Dr. Jeri Logemann, a pioneer in the field. During this time, she obtained her Board Certification in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (BCS-S). Publications include “Relation of mucous membrane alterations to oral intake during the first year after treatment for head and neck cancer” (2010) and “Effects of swallowing therapy on oropharyngeal function in head and neck cancer patients” (2008). She is lead author of a chapter entitled “An Interdisciplinary Approach to the Management of HPV-Positive Tonsil Cancer with Chemoradiation Therapy” published in Cases in Head and Neck Cancer: A Multidisciplinary Approach (Plural Publishing).She has presented numerous professional meetings, including the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, Ohio Speech Language Hearing Association, and grand rounds within the medical community.
Patients will find that Angela takes a mind-body- spirit approach, meeting the multifaceted needs of each individual. The modalities of Cranial Sacral Therapy (Upledger Institute), myofascial release, and Lymphatic Drainage (Chickly) are interwoven into evidence-based swallowing and voice therapy practices.
She is a proud graduate of West Virginia University completing her master’s degree in 1981. She is the granddaughter of an Italian immigrant coal miner and the daughter of a football coach. As a football fan, she remains loyal to the WVU Mountaineers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
